A Coo or Two

Noah has been cooing for about a month now, unfortunately it has been really hard to get a good video of it.

Grasping

We had our visit with the pediatric dermatologist today. She recommended that we just monitor the hemangioma for now to make sure it does not grow any further toward Noah's eye. Once we are past the growth stage it should start to disappear on its own. Let's hope it stops growing soon.

We've been practicing giving Noah various objects to grasp. He has yet to grab for anything on his own yet and seems completely disinterested so far in what we've given him (he's still all about that little hanging lion).

Mr. Lumpy

I took Noah back to the pediatrician today.  He had started to grow a small bluish lump near his left eyebrow and I wanted to have it checked out.  It turns out that Noah has a deep hemangioma on his forehead.  It's a benign mass that is present at birth, but it does not visually appear until 3-4 months later.  The pedy wants us to have it looked at by a pediatric dermatologist since it seems to be growing fairly quickly and is quite close to his left eye.  It is possible that it will need to be removed so that it does not interfere with his vision.  It isn't painful and if medical intervention is deemed unnecessary, then it should fade on its own in a couple years.

In other lumpy news, Noah weighs almost 12 pounds now - a gain of half a pound in a week - which I think went straight into his newly round little tummy.

Bubbles

It's a little hard to tell in these photos (if you click them the pictures get bigger), but Noah's salivary glands have recently developed and he's been enjoying his new ability to make spit bubbles.

Shots

Noah had his 2 month check-up today at (almost) 10 weeks old.  He weighed 11 pounds and 9 ounces (about 36th percentile for his age) and was almost 24 inches long (75th percentile).  He is a long and skinny little guy and the doctor said he is doing very well.  He also had two vaccinations today.  I felt so guilty bringing him in when he was smiling all morning, but aside from some initial grumpiness he has been tolerating them quite well.

Hair

Well I think it's finally time to make an appointment and take care of all that crazy hair.  I have heard that babies usually lose their hair at about 3 months.  Originally, I wanted to wait on getting it cut to see whether or not his would fall out.  But then I was thinking, his balding head wouldn't really look any better if I left it long and unruly..

If we don't immediately comb his hair after washing, it ends up looking like this.

We had a Blackhawks photo shoot yesterday with Noah's new hockey monkey, Bananas.  He seems to like hockey now, but just wait until next winter's ice skating lesson..

Swatting and Smiling

Around 6 weeks Noah began to actively look at objects and follow them with his eyes.  His favorite thing to do right now (other than eat) is to lie on his space gym, watch the objects float around, and try to swat at them.  The first time he tried it out he was content to play there for 20 minutes!

He's also been smiling like crazy.  It's a little hard to get a picture because he tends to be mesmerized by the sight of the camera and stops smiling as soon as he sees it.  I did get a pretty nice one during his recent 2 month photo shoot yesterday and caught a smile on video this morning.  And don't forget to check out his monthly growth by clicking on his picture to the right.
