Wyatt Turns 3

My sweet squishy turned three at the end of July. Here he is on his last night as a two year old.

We had a small, but sweet at-home celebration on his birthday. He had stayed home sick that day with Dad because of a tummy bug, but was feeling well enough to have a little cake later that evening.

Downtown

I took a vacation day in July (my first since coming back to work) so we could take the kids on their first train ride downtown. The boys were really excited as you can imagine.

Once in the city, we decided to take a water taxi to Michigan Ave because that's the most fun way to get around the city (well except for horse carriages... or pedicabs). They liked the boat ride, just not as much as the train ride.

Upon arrival we walked to Millennium Park to see the infamous Bean. For all the times I worked and visited the city, I have never actually seen it. By the time we got there, Wyatt and Charlotte were both passed out so it was only Noah who actually got to see his reflection.

Next we visited the famous faces fountain (or whatever it's called). The boys loved frolicking back and forth in the water. I'll have to remember to dress them in swim trunks the next time we visit.

It was a pretty overcast day, but we thought that would keep some of the crowds away.

Next, we headed over to Maggie Daley Park. Despite the weather (and it had begun to sprinkle at this point), Maggie Daley was pretty crowded. There was at least one summer camp there as well. We tried to do the park in pieces (they have it set up that way and each park has recommended ages posted). The smaller ones were easy to keep track of the kids, but the biggest one was a little bit of a challenge. I had to stay with Charlotte and keep my eyes on one of the boys while Nick followed around the other. But they had a great time climbing and sliding and exploring (except for Nick almost getting stuck inside the lighthouse).

We also visited Buckingham Fountain

On our way home on a rush hour train. We tried not to bother the commuters too much. The kids really had a great time exploring the "big city".

Summer Pool Party

For the first time since Nick started his most recent job, the whole family was able to attend the Village Summer Pool Party (and we even brought Auntie Ashley with too). The first year it was rained out. Last year I was very pregnant and decided to stay home with Wyatt, but Nick and Noah went and afterwards I heard a lot about a little turtle slide that Noah really took a liking to. Noah went straight-away to his turtle that he hadn't forgotten about and enjoyed splashing in the shallow end with balls and inner tubes. Wyatt decided to hang out on dry land for most of the night: the sandbox area. Charlotte enjoyed splashing her hands in the shallowest part of the pool. Next year I think she is going to have her eye on that colorful turtle slide.
