Summer - Week Six

The next weekend, we invited Papa Ray and Cheryl to join us for some blueberry picking at Johnson's Farm. We missed strawberry picking season while on vacation, but we love blueberries just as much.

Picking blueberries is much more tedious and time consuming than picking strawberries, so it took a lot longer to fill a basket.

Starting to make some progress.

There were a few strawberry bushes left, so we filled a couple baskets of that too. Wyatt also grabbed a few for his tummy.

A job well done.

Heading back in from the fields.

After lunch, it was playtime.

CeCe hitched a ride with Papa.

Either the corn pit is new, or we somehow missed it last year.

Farm work is exhausting.

On Monday, I surprised Noah with a smoothie after his outdoor track class. Poor thing had to run around for an hour in 90 degree heat.

And then I let them play on the nearby playground for a while.

Same sleeping Charlotte. Different couch.

We ended the week with a camp fire.

Rolling Through October

Continuing our fall fun, we went to a fest at Cantigny one Saturday. It was a little muddy, so the bounce houses weren't that much fun (for strategic reasons), but we made silly face pumpkins, climbed tanks, played at the park, and went on a hay ride. And for some reason, wore superhero masks on the way there.

One night I helped Noah with his math homework (that's usually dad's job).

It was still warm enough in mid-October to wear shorts

We went to Jaxon's 5th Birthday party at McDonald's (Dad's watching the Bears game in the background)

We bought a "new" couch. We didn't want to spend a lot of money on a couch that they might destroy (since they are still pretty young), but we desperately needed a new couch, so we bought a floor model with some minor flaws for a deep discount.

One day a snowstorm blew in out of nowhere while we were outside playing.

We finally painted the front door.

We had a family night at the movie theatre where we saw Small Foot

We met some friends at Dollinger's for their last Civil War battle ever (sniff).

And we dressed up for the costume contest at October Pack Night. Noah's den also put on a Halloween skit.
