Three Year Old Assessment

Noah had his three year old well check-up last week. He weighed in at 29 pounds (still around the 25th percentile), but I think they got his height wrong so we re-checked him at home and it was an entire inch off. He is about 37 3/4" tall, which is right on track around the 50th percentile. He didn't need any shots (for the second year in a row), but we did have some blood drawn to make sure he wasn't anemic, which he wasn't. The pedy says he is nice and healthy, but did suggest we start him on a daily vitamin since his eating habits are still less than stellar.

I went to Noah's first quarter, early pre-school, parent-teacher conference today (that was a mouthful) and the teacher had all nice things to say about Noah. He is very quiet and reserved in class so she has to watch very carefully to see if he is participating in certain activities. He has mastered a few skills like all of his gross motor (ie running, throwing a ball) as well as understanding good hygiene, and naming parts of the body. He is still developing most of the other skills they assess during this quarter such as: participation in stories and songs, handling books appropriately, ordering objects by size, copying simple written patterns, using scissors, working on more complex puzzles, and playing with a group. She says he always follows directions, is especially helpful with cleaning up, and he is a very sweet little guy.

Now that I have a list of current and future skills that they will be testing, I am going to make a point to work with him on them. He doesn't get tested on putting together sentences until next time, but he is getting better every day. Some examples "Need you help, Dad" and "Take off my coat." He seems a little slower verbally than his peers, but I'm sure he'll be a chatterbox in no time.

A Growing Squish

Squish is getting squishier every day. He weighs 15 pounds, rolled over from back to front last week, and is tall enough to touch the ground and jump in his jumparoo. He also recently started enjoying grasping objects and trying to stuff them and his fingers inside his mouth.

Opening the Loot

Noah was lucky enough to receive a bunch of wonderful new gifts for his birthday. He immediately opened most of his gifts, but had to wait until Sunday night to open his biggest ones. Here he is checking out his new easel and balance bike

Circus Circus

The Circus was in town so we took Noah for his birthday. He was really excited for the show to start. His favorite act was the horses followed by the puppies and the elephants. Parts of the show did get long and he got a little antsy, but was generally pretty well behaved. He also lost a shoe (!) during intermission, but luckily we found it.

Noah is Three

We had a small, magic themed birthday party for our new three year old. I only started planning the party the weekend prior, so I ended up ordering a printable kit online to serve as the decorations.

We had sandwiches and "chippies", the latter of which Noah had no problem scarfing down.

It was nice to see our twin cousins who will be turning one soon. They have gotten so big.

This was the first year Noah really enjoyed opening his presents.
