Visiting Uncle

We finally went down to the "big city" to visit uncle Kurt in his new apartment. Noah made himself right at home going through cupboards in the kitchen and talking uncle into giving him a banana (which he later dropped in the elevator).

Our first stop was the nearby nature center. It was a beautiful center and it was nearly empty because everyone was outside enjoying the weather. Our favorite spot was the butterfly room. It's a little hard to capture in still photos, but there were dozens and dozens of butterflies zooming around our heads. They even make you check yourself before you leave the room to make sure you didn't have any butterfly hitchhikers on your clothing. It was really neat.

Around lunchtime we headed over to the Lincoln Park Zoo for the afternoon.

Mom's Day

Mother's Day picture with my posse. I got breakfast in bed and Wyatt even slept in a little bit for me!

Bikes n Footgear

We've been working on getting Noah to ride one of his several bikes. He has a big wheel, a tricycle, and a balance bike, but never uses any of them for more than a minute at which point he promptly gives up because he "can't do it." The whole point of getting the balance bike was because he only likes to use his bikes Flintstone-style and this is the main concept of the balance bike - a bike without any pedals. Unfortunately, he still doesn't use it right and half the time he won't even sit down completely on the seat. It's our goal this year to get him to figure out at least one of them on his own.

And Wyatt got his first pair of shoes. Crocs. I hate crocs and said I'd never buy them (just like I swore I would never buy light-up shoes...), but these baby ones were pretty cute.

Lunching Outdoors

Another perk of warm weather - getting to eat outside again! Yesterday at school Noah learned about setting the table. This is one of his favorite things so when I asked him about it he got excited and started ticking off on his fingers (where did he learn to do that?) all of the items he placed on the table: "cup, plate, spoon, fork, knife, napkin too". He's all set for a job in catering!

 

I think this little collared onesie makes Wyatt look like a little engineer - or at least like he's ready to go golfing! Daddy's little boy for sure.



Maple

In our continued effort to spruce up our landscaping, last fall we purchased a pretty new maple tree for our front yard. At the time we just dug out a random plot of dirt around the tree in anticipation of turning it into something more in the spring. But it was quite an eyesore and the soil started eroding every time it rained. When the weather finally started to cooperate we headed back outside to fix it up. It took us a few weeks and one can of spray paint to finally make a decision, but the new area has now been connected to an original landscaped area - made possible by the removal of two large burning bushes that looked awkward at the end of the walkway. Now we just have to do a little more planting and this part of the yard will be complete.

And Noah was a big help as usual getting out all of his shovels and buckets to help Daddy.
