School Begins

On August 21st, Noah had his first day of third grade. It's his third and final year at Haines School.

His backpack this year is black and has Batman written on it. He's also now the sole student at the bus stop on this side of the neighborhood.

Noah's teacher also had him do a first day of school picture, although I can tell it wasn't actually taken on the first day because I know what he was wearing that day.

With Noah at school and Charlotte at daycare, Wyatt and I had a special day together. First we stopped at the scout store to pick up some items including this cozy sweatshirt.

Then we stopped by his new school for Kindergarten Orientation. His teacher is the same one that Noah had in 2nd grade. She switched over the summer to a different grade. We loved Mrs. Chimino so I had to request her for Wyatt. Wyatt will be in the blue neighborhood for Trailblazers (Kinder extension) and in the green neighborhood for regular class.

Wyatt was very happy that his bestie would also be going to Kinder with him. They both previously completed Kinder at Triple R. Wyatt could have gone on to 1st grade, but I chose to hold him back to give him an extra year of childhood and so he would not always feel like he was trying to catch up to his older classmates. He is also a little short for his age, so he fits in well with the other Kinders.

For his special lunch that day, he chose IHOP.

The following day he had his first day at Spencer Trail. Since he was doing Trailblazers in the morning (extended Kindergarten) he was not able to ride the bus to school, but he did get to ride it home.

Summer's End

By the end of summer, Wyatt was a pro at riding his bike without training wheels.

We attended a birthday pool party the last Saturday of summer. They also had a reptile show and some arts and crafts in the garage.

 

On Sunday, we took CeCe to Build a Bear for her birthday. It was the first time she had ever made a bear and she was super excited. She chose a strawberry Shopkins bear. Because it was buy one get one for $10, we let Wyatt choose one for his birthday too. He chose Bowser from Super Mario.

I also had back to school pictures taken of the kids at the nearby Greenhouse.

On the last day of summer, we brought Noah's supplies to school and went to meet his new teacher. We brought Wyatt's BFF, Jaxon, along with us. They enjoyed being silly in Noah's new classroom.

And then I took them all out for lunch.

Summer - Week One

June started off with a scout hike at Goodenow Grove in Beecher. It was hot day and we didn't bring the stroller, so Charlotte had a bit of meltdown. I ended up carrying her on my shoulders for half the hike.

 

Charlotte and I later ducked into the nature center while a few of the boys continued on for an extended hike.

Inside the center, we found a little market, a wooden tree house, and a puppet theatre to play with.

 

 

 

 Later, we invited some friends over for a summer kick-off s'mores roast.

 

 

The library had their annual kick-off event on Monday (before school even let out). We almost didn't make it because the van got a flat tire in the driveway, but I was able to pull it off by driving Charlotte and Noah in the Subaru and then leaving them at the library with friends while I went to daycare to fetch Wyatt. We then waited until Nick came by so he could put the extra kid in his truck.

While waiting, we signed up for the summer reading program, grabbed a sign for our yard, enjoyed some ice cream, painted kindness rocks, and played in the makerspace.

Finally, Noah had his last day of school that Friday. School was extended by a week due to winter snow days. He really grew a lot in 2nd grade (and also really needed a haircut).

 

 

 

First day and Last day

That evening, I took him to swim school for what was supposed to be his make-up swim lesson while Wyatt went to cake pop class with Jaxon. They ended up giving me the wrong lesson time, so we had to schedule a make-up for the make-up.
 

But Wyatt had fun making cake pops.

 

 

Later he decided it was a good night to sleep in his teepee.

And Noah decided to sleep on his floor too. Actually, he slept on his floor pretty much the whole summer. He said he just liked it better.
