Meteorologically, it was still summer so we had more fun activities planned. The Saturday after school started, we did a fossil program at Midewin. After an introduction in the visitor's center, they took us out to an old farm and had us try to identify various fossils.
They even did a little reenactment of the original owner of the farm.
Then we had to surface hunt through a field and place a flag next to any items we found (the items were placed there for the program).

The following day was the day that CeCe had been waiting all summer for: her birthday party with her daycare friends. It was a fairy party at our favorite place - the nature center. For dessert, I had pink cupcakes made and then placed vintage-style fairy sticks in them.
For the party favors, we gave out cookies, fairy dust necklaces, and fairy crowns.
Since it was not fairy season (which I guess is the spring), I got a great deal on some fairy houses. To finish off the table, I placed some lights in mason jars.
The nature center even placed fairy wings on Kitty, the tortoise.
The nature center also supplied wings for the girls to wear and let CeCe keep hers. During the party they played games, made fairy wands, picked fairy names, and went for a fairy hike. CeCe's fairy name was Rainbow Belle. She picked it herself.
Miss Ingrid was our host and brought her cello to play during the game.

It was interesting to see how many girls don't go on hikes with their families as they were either scared to go into the woods or thought it was too dirty.
And then it was back to the nature center for pizza, cupcakes, and presents. CeCe had a great time at her party, despite her best friend getting lost and missing most of it.
Immediately after the party, the boys came and picked us up to go into the city for a White Sox game.

We got cheap upper deck seats, so there weren't many people sitting around us.
