Summer Vacation Week 6 - Saturday

I'm splitting up Week 6 since it contains our family vacation and more pictures than usual.

We started off the Saturday before we left by going to see a dinosaur show at the library. We aren't technically members of our "home" library, so I was excited that we got into the program. If dinosaurs are coming to town, then Wyatt needs to be there.

It was an interesting show about different bones that the man had found on his excavations. He brought along many samples to show everyone. The organization that the presenter excavates through is open to public enrollment starting at age 10, so that's something to keep in mind if Wyatt is still really interested when he's older.

Here Wyatt is reaching up to touch a bone.

Other than an incident with a behaviorally challenged boy sitting by Noah, we had a fun morning learning about dinos.

Later that day, I took Charlotte to a local animal rescue fundraiser called Princesses and Unicorns. She was so excited to wear her pretty princess dress.

Time for our ride on the unicorn

After the unicorn ride, Charlotte devoured her complimentary cupcake and we took a tour around the farm to see the other animals

While we were outside on our tour, a vintage plane flew right over our head. It's hard to tell in the picture (because I couldn't get my camera out in time) but cousin KK was up in that vintage plane!

Before we left, Charlotte convinced me to let her make a special stuffed friend to take home with us

Princessing is tough work

And here's Wyatt enjoying a huge cookie after dinner that night

The Hollow

On a chillier day in mid-October, we stopped by the Halloween Hollow for a few carnival rides, trike riding, pumpkin painting, and horseback riding.

HH Festival

The second weekend in September is always my "single parent weekend" when Nick is out of town for his golf outing, so one of the things I always do is take the kids to the Homer Harvest Festival. I kept Charlotte in a stroller again this year to keep it manageable, but next year when she's three I doubt that will work. Here we are watching the boys run in and out of the corn maze. I just had to hope that they would both eventually come back out.

We love their free pony rides. Charlotte was finally not afraid and rode a pony for the first time.

Only Noah was brave enough to go into the petting zoo. Charlotte wanted nothing to do with it and Wyatt only wanted to see the animals from the other side of the fence.

They don't let you go into the llama enclosure.

Then we took a spin on the cow train. Wyatt knew that they were going to be firing the cannon again soon, so he took the necessary precautions.
