It Feels Like Summer Again

At the end of September we had a surprise heat wave. It was technically still summer (for the first two days of the heat wave) but with temperatures near 100, it was very atypical weather. But who are we kidding, we loved it and dragged the pool out to have a swim day in the back yard.

Charlotte didn't want to do the pool or sprinkler, but she still enjoyed the summer resurgence 

One day I took the afternoon off work and met some friends up at Cantigny Park. It was just too nice to be sitting at a desk. Since it was a school day, Noah couldn't join us. But Wyatt and Charlotte had a lovely time.

Another day we had a fall photo shoot planned, so unfortunately the kids had to begrudgingly don pants, long sleeve shirts, and boots in 93 degree heat. Sorry kids. But the camping themed pictures turned out super cute. Charlotte, as usual, didn't want to smile, but later in the session the manager came to help and got her to crack a few smiles. I love the Penny's photo manager.

Since it was close to the summer birthdays, we also did a four year old picture for Wyatt and a two year old picture for Charlotte. Charlotte's measuring stick is technically upside down, but she cooperated enough to hold it and smirk so I call that a win.

Fall Soccer

Since soccer is the only league offered in the fall, we had Wyatt wait to do soccer so it didn't overwhelm him (and us) during the busy summer season. His team didn't have a coach, so Nick stepped up to help. Since the kids on the team were only three and four year olds, he figured that all he had to do was watch them run back and forth and not really need to possess any soccer coaching skills. I told him to just pretend it was hockey - they wouldn't even know the difference. Wyatt received jersey number four on the silver team - the same jersey and color that Noah wore his first year. Here is Wyatt going for the ball during an early game.

Only one game was rained out and we anticipated it - just look at that sky. We got about 15 minutes in before it began to downpour.

Taking a cue from Noah's last soccer team, we placed a blanket out for the team to sit on so we could find them for position switches.

Here comes the rain.

Wyatt did pretty well at soccer - when he was paying attention. He had a tendency to become distracted easily and would often wander around the field during the game. For his last game, I told him he had to step it up or he wouldn't receive a trophy. So he really tried hard and got some great kicks in. 

Not sure why the frowny face, but she makes some good ones.

He had a great first season and I expect that he will do even better next year if he can focus more on the game.

There were no team pictures for fall soccer, so we had the team get together after their last game.
