Charleston Day Two

Our first full day in Charleston started with a trip to Fort Sumter, which we accessed by boat.

The USS Yorktown was docked in the same harbor as our Fort Sumter boat. Wyatt wanted to go aboard, but we decided not to do that tour. Nick wants to come back and sleep on it.

It was about a 20 minute boat ride to the fort.

Charlotte was thrilled to visit a fort in 90 degree weather.

Wyatt picked up a union soldier hat in the gift shop that came in handy with the blazing sun.

This is the historic Fort Sumter flag that was felled during an attack on the fort. There were 33 stars on the flag at that time.

 

 Wyatt also got himself a little cannon replica.

On our way back to the car, a helicopter was taking off right next to the parking lot.

Our next stop was to the Boone Plantation. We did a guided tour of the house and then wandered around the beautiful grounds.

We also took a wagon ride around the grounds and through the vegetable gardens.

And CeCe picked up a new purse.

Our last stop at the plantation was to the slaves' quarters.

It was a beautiful place with gorgeous Spanish moss covered trees.

That evening, we drove to Sullivan's Island for dinner. The pizza place only served New York Style, so I showed Wyatt how to fold the pizza in true New York fashion.

Since we were only in Charleston for a couple days, we stayed at a hotel.
