We left for vacation late morning on a Friday. Noah helped us pack up the car and then we swung by the daycare to pick up the other two on our way south. The first day was spent almost exclusively on the road, but we did stop at a couple rest areas to stretch and play.
The kids did pretty well in the car. They watched some movies and took a few naps.
We spent a quick night in Tennessee and thanked our lucky stars that we had a half tank of gas when we rolled into town because there was a gas shortage and the Nashville area stations had no gas. Not a drop. The second day was also spent on the road and we sailed into St. Augustine around dinnertime. The next morning we were ready to hit the town. Well, after we finally got out of bed.
We took a trolley into town, had lunch, and walked around the historical Colonial Quarter.
We then met up with Papa, Cheryl, and Cheryl's daughter and explored the Castillo de San Marcos. We saw a cannon demonstration and explored the various nooks and crannies. Noah was really into it and kept asking to go back to the castle (and we obliged two days later). You might be thinking, hey this a fort not a castle and that's mostly correct; however, we learned that it
is technically a castle because it has a drawbridge and a moat surrounding it.

Then we trollyed back to the hotel after a long, hot first day.
